Light Neck Back Finish
NPG neck backs have a light finish below the headstock. This allows your hand to move fast and smoothly without getting hung up on a heavy finish. And, it’s a better solution than leaving it unfinished. In the ‘80s, players commonly shaved and sanded off the finish on the back of their guitar necks to get them smooth and slick. Some even used a spray to lubricate them before playing. Neither was a great idea as unsealed wood will warp and distort over time.
NPG includes this signature light finish on the neck back of all guitars unless otherwise noted. The rest of the neck and headstock has a heavier finish.
